Team Member Spotlight: Troy Clark, Project Manager

blackstone

With 20+ years of experience with East & Westbrook, Troy has earned the utmost respect from his co-workers while working his way through the ranks to become a Project Manager in 2015. After dabbling in some construction contracting as a teenager, Troy started with E&W in 1995 as a Carpenter’s Helper. By the end of his first year, Troy was promoted to Carpenter, and over the next several years, worked his way into roles as a Leadman, Foreman, Superintendent and eventually to his current Project Manager gig. Troy currently oversees and manages maintenance projects for some of East & Westbrook’s biggest clients, including Home Depot, Dow Corning and North American Steel.

Where does your construction background come from?

Early on, my father taught me most of what I know. We worked on houses together. In my late teens, I was self-employed for a few years doing construction with my brother-in-law. We did all sorts of projects like roofing, siding and decks.  E&W has helped me to develop my construction skills, always challenging me to learn more and allowing me to apply those skills on projects. Other construction companies might throw you to the wolves, but E&W has brought me along at a comfortable pace.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on?

We did some concrete work for both Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World. At Kentucky Kingdom, we laid foundations for their new waterslides and worked on one of the roller coasters. At Holiday World, we worked on the Thunderbird ride. Working on roller coasters and rides, the accuracy is so much more critical than a typical project. It was a welcome challenge for our team and we learned a lot. They were just really cool projects that we had a lot of fun being on site with them.

What do you like to do outside of work?

My family (wife and 2 children - 7 and 9) and I love spending time together outdoors, hiking and camping. Some of the E&W guys and I compete in Spartan races and different kinds of outdoor obstacle course races. It keeps us in shape, and luckily, working at E&W also helps us stay in shape to be able to compete at a high level.

What do you like most about working for E&W?

The year-round work is great. We never have to plan and save for down months or being laid off. We work all year long and it keeps the paycheck steady.  Also, you would think I might get sick of seeing these guys (coworkers), but we are all very close friends outside of work. We hang out a lot, go to races, have bonfires and our families all know each other.
