It was the year 2000 when Fabian Fernandez first moved to this country from his native Mexico. One of Fabian's close friends suggested that he apply with East & Westbrook. The lifelong career path that E&W could offer piqued Fabian’s curiosity, but he had little experience with the superlative construction work that E&W excels at. What he did have, however, was an enthusiastic desire to learn. This eagerness, coupled with the relentless work ethic that he developed in his home country working as a farmer, and later honed with his early jobs in America working at a restaurant and as a tree climber, prompted Fabian to apply for a position with the company, regardless of previous experience. His career began shortly thereafter.
Fast forward nine years, and Fabian is still working harder and more proudly than ever. Rain or shine, his hours on the job are sometimes long, often requiring him to work extra hours to make sure every last task gets completed, which he does enthusiastically. As part of East & Westbrook's Foreman Training Program, Fabian is currently learning the skills and tools to become a successful foreman, the next step in his career path. He's learning how to construct tilt-up walls, which, in typical Fabian fashion, is viewed as an exciting and interesting process for him. He’s also gaining hands-on experience with a tilt-up job in Columbus, Ohio. He mentions that his most interesting projects throughout his years at E&W were the foundational constructions of roller coasters for Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World. He is always, as he says, “willing to do whatever there is to do.”
Perhaps the most instantly noticeable aspect of Fabian’s personality is his incessantly positive outlook on just about everything, especially work. “Always try to keep a smile on your face,” he says sincerely. For him, everyday's an opportunity to learn something new and exciting and the outstanding workplace culture at E&W is perfectly conducive to this admirable mindset. His favorite part about working at E&W is the experience and opportunities it provides, as well as his endlessly supportive team of similarly motivated people with similarly optimistic attitudes.
When he’s not at work, Fabian’s favorite hobby is spending time with his family, including his eleven year old daughter and his brother. He loves watching movies with his wife and daughter, so he is always happy to take them to the theater as a way of spending time together. Though the construction industry keeps Fabian in pretty good physical shape, he also enjoys playing basketball in his spare time.
It’s evident that Fabian has carved out quite a career for himself at E&W, a challenging yet satisfying one that enables him to learn and satisfy his desire to work hard while also having time to spend with his loved ones.
