At East and Westbrook (“E&W”), we are proud to have recently announced a game-changing partnership that helps students and individuals who are looking to supercharge their careers. Specifically, we have partnered with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (“KCTCS”) to become the title sponsor for a new apprenticeship program called Jefferson BuiLT.
Already, five East and Westbrook team members have opted in, taking advantage of this great opportunity to learn new skills and make real progress toward their career goals. The results are already promising. Ultimately, the Jefferson BuiLT program provides a compelling opportunity for students and individuals to change or improve their careers.
This new apprenticeship program fills a key need in the construction technology fields. Simply put, there are many opportunities available in these fields, yet there aren’t enough skilled tradesmen to fill them. It isn’t because of any lack of interest. On the contrary, interest for skilled trades is on the rise. Both recent graduates and established professionals are eager to get their hands dirty, yet it takes a significant amount of time and resources in order to get trained.
This is where East and Westbrook and KCTCS come into the picture. KCTCS created the BuiLt (Building Trades Leadership Training) program to bridge this gap between increasing interest in trades like construction and the lack of training or education to fill those positions. The true beauty of the Jefferson BuiLT program is that it is a full work-study program. Students meet with their employer for four days per week while they meet for classes one day per week. Through this arrangement, students are able to obtain some valuable, hands-on experience while simultaneously working toward a diploma or associate degree in construction technology, plumbing, or HVAC. And best of all? If students finish their degree and stay employed, they are likely to secure a full-time job after graduation.
For East & Westbrook, this apprenticeship program is an amazing opportunity. We are eager to help program participants achieve their professional goals while learning about the importance of safety, quality, and performance. But not only that, the Jefferson BuiLT program helps East & Westbrook find motivated and driven apprentices in construction. We truly love what we do and are excited to find hungry individuals who are ready to commit themselves to the field. By consistently doing the work and learning from our experienced team members, we are confident that most apprentices will be ready for full-time employment at the conclusion of the program.
The Jefferson BuiLT program is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain hands-on instruction in the construction field. Not only can students essentially get paid for going to school, but they can use their experiences to secure full-time employment after graduation.
