Some say that idle hands make for idle minds; something that Troy Halsell found the solution to working at East and Westbrook. Troy is a man that likes to stay busy and learn while he’s at it—he's not much for sitting idle. “I love it man, it’s home for me” answered Troy when asked how he likes working construction for East & Westbrook. Job sites have a lot of moving parts, everything from excavating and hauling material to tying rebar and constructing concrete forms—all of which Troy is ready to do without blinking an eye. For Troy, it's about keeping things simple and getting the job done, “there’s no need to complicate things.”
"I had a cousin that was doing [concrete construction]. He got me a job and I really liked the work. You stay busy and that's what I like about it. I did a lot of residential concrete in Bowling Green."
"I moved up here to Louisville about a year ago and one of my buddies was working for East and Westbrook and he pretty much gave me the info to sign up and submit the application. It went from there."
"It has to do with everyone. It's a team operation all the way from the little guy to the big bosses. If you don’t know something they are quick to teach you. I love that about it, because I’m growing as a person, you know, that's why I am here. Foremen are so generous here too, they've been teaching me to break down blueprints. That's something that motivates me to go to work you know, when you have foremen pulling you aside to teach you how to do something. Everybody man, they’re good people. And you get to meet new people. I've been here for nine months and I’m still meeting new people."
"I like to play golf. I play once every couple of weeks—once a week if I can manage. I spend time with my kids, I've got a 17 year old daughter (Sabbath) and a 6 year old daughter (Alexis). I try not to complicate it too much anymore. I do have to drive to Bowling Green for my kids and dad. I used to try and work as many weekends as I could but now with East and Westbrook i’m trying to spend more time with my daughters. They are why I’m doing everything I’m doing now. Outside of that, I like anything with an engine (boats, dirt bikes & four wheelers), I love fishing and paintballing every now and again with my buddies."
"As of now, you know—my work, it teaches me how to be a man. When I wake up in the morning and put my boots on, I feel good about it. And when I come home in the afternoon and take my boots off, I feel good about it."
